A Year 5 Story…
I started at Stratford Manor in Nursery, and I am now in Year 5. One of the best experiences I have had is when I had to face my fears at Fairplay House. On the big swing, at first I was terrified, but I managed to go to the highest level. I was really proud of myself. What really helped me was my friends and the teachers encouraging me and being supportive.
When I was in Year 4 we had a sleepover in school. I really liked the campfire and the hot chocolate. We stayed awake chatting to our friends for ages. Playing hide and seek in the school was really fun.
Each term we go on lots of school trips. My favourite one was when we went to London Zoo in Year 4. In science we were learning about animals, so we went to see some, and we got to feed a penguin. We also got to see the tiger being fed meat to eat which was both scary and awesome.
The teachers are really good at finding things that all the children are interested in, and they make learning really fun.
My favourite subjects are maths and English. I like the fact that we use different types of writing each term. I especially like writing poems.
A Year 5 Story…
What is really special about Stratford Manor is how supportive everyone is, especially when new children join the school. The teachers are really kind, and are very good at helping children if they cannot speak English when they arrive.
We are really lucky with all of the equipment we have in the playground. I have learnt to balance much better now. We have helped the younger children learn how to play when we get new equipment.
We have lots of after school clubs. My favourite one is cheerleading which I have been doing since the start of Y4. Everybody there is really helpful. We have lots of fun while we are learning new things. I have got better at holding others, and I am a lot more confident. We take part in cheerleading competitions each term which is fun, and we get to meet other teams from other schools. Our school team is getting better.
I have been at Stratford Manor since Nursery, and my brother goes here too, and my cousin who is now at college also came here – he really loved being at this school, and tells me that all the time. The best thing about the school is how positive everyone is, and how much the teachers help us. I think that the teachers know the children very well.
Art is my favourite subject. All of the beautiful colours really make me happy. After we went to Kew Gardens we sketched flowers and then painted them. We have put all of these together to create a bigger picture. We get to do lots of different types of art at school which is really fun.
I also really enjoy English. When we learn new words I can then use them in my writing to make it better. The new way of learning English has really helped me – chotting helps to plan my writing more carefully, as well as helping me to improve my writing when we edit.
A Year 4 Story…
I joined Stratford Manor in October this year, so have only been here for a few months. When I started I felt really welcome, and made friends easily because the class were really nice to me. I feel very settled here.
There are lots of fun things to do at lunchtime and playtime, and I enjoy these times because I get to play with my friends.
I really enjoy art – it is really fun. We get to learn how to do different sculptures. I also like computing and really enjoyed learning to programme the crumble devices to change colours. In maths we learn to use different methods to find out the answers. In English I like that we read fun fiction and non-fiction texts.
A Year 4 Story…
My twin brother and I joined Stratford Manor in the middle of lockdown in Y2, so it was a while before I met my teacher and my class in real life! They all made me feel welcome, even though it was all online. It was strange at first, but there was a lovely atmosphere, and I soon got to know everyone. Manor really encourage all of us to learn more. My favourite subject is design and technology because I enjoy creating things, and using lots of different materials. There are also lots of after school clubs – I really enjoy both football club and boxing club.
The playground is a fun place to be because there are lots of different activities, and there is also a fruit basket that we can choose from. The lunch hall makes different food each day, and the dishes come from all over the world.
I think that Stratford Manor is a special place – it is a community, and I feel like I belong.
A Year 4 Story…
I have been at Stratford Manor for 6 years – I joined in nursery. I like being here because you learn a lot – about all different cultures. It is very inclusive for all the children – we make sure that everyone mixes together. They have really helped me with my reading and writing, and this has got a lot better since last year. My favourite subject is art because you can make anything and everything – nothing is wrong, everything is art. I drew and painted Frida Kahlo in Y3. She is a role model for me and showed that women can do anything in life, and being sick doesn’t stop you from doing what you want to do.
I really like the clubs – my favourite one is gymnastics. I am also thinking about joining the street dancing club.
The teachers and the children make Manor a family. I feel like I belong to the Manor family. I have learned that it doesn’t matter if you are different, or if you believe different things – you can still belong.
A Year 6 Story…
I’m proud to be a member of this school – I’ve been here since reception and all of my brothers and sisters have come to this school too. When I was younger, I was afraid of speaking out as I had a stutter but the teachers were so patient and supportive that I grew in confidence as was able to become more articulate. The school has also helped me become confident to express my feelings and talk openly about my personal worries when I have had them in the past – I knew my school would be able to help me. There have been so many educational visits in my time here – I really have enjoyed them all but there is one that really stands out to me… visiting Kew Gardens! It really gave me an insight to what the Amazon rainforest could be like and I was exposed to so many different plants that I had never heard of or experienced before. I also really enjoyed visiting London Zoo, even though at first I was scared to look at some of the animals first, however, with support from my teachers, I was able to get up close with them.
Teachers like to encourage us all to be our best and support us through challenging learning. My teacher has also created an incentive to read even more by creating a reward system in our class. I enjoy reading because there are many places to choose books from including the school library, book corners and we’ve recently had a pop up book shed.
I like Stratford Manor Primary because it has helped me face my fears of claustrophobia and heights – our residential to Fairplay House was great fun and taught me how to be further independent.
There’s always something exciting happening at Stratford Manor and that is why it is a special place to be.
A Year 6 Story…
I really like Stratford Manor Primary because it has helped me to become a confident learner and enable me to face my fears. I’ve been lucky enough to be here since nursery and now I am in Year 6 – my experiences have been amazing and fun. When I first started, I was very shy but now I feel more confident in expressing myself and sharing my ideas.
The best thing about this school is how the teachers encourage us to learn – the teachers really care and want the best for us. Although some of the work has been difficult, I try my best so that I always achieve my best. I think what is unique about Stratford Manor Primary is that the teachers take learning outside of the school for every unit that we do so that we get to experience the most that we can.
Since being at the school, I’ve really become better writing and developed a love for art as I enjoy being creative. I enjoyed the school trips we have been on, including the cheerleading showcase that I have taken part in. I really enjoy socialising with my friends at play and lunchtimes – sometimes we sit down and relax and other times we play sports and games together.
One of the best experiences has been Fairplay House: I really enjoyed going on the zip wire because it helped me overcome my fear of heights. I also got to know people better which have made friendships even stronger. This school is amazing. All of my siblings went here and they all enjoyed it too. When the time does come to leave when I finish Year 6, I already know I will really miss the school but will have great memories that will last forever.
If I had to describe the school in three words they would be supportive, creative and caring.
A Year 5 Story…
I feel very lucky to go to this school, the teachers have helped me so much since I was in nursery and I always feel very welcome here. The special thing about this school is that the teachers encourage and motivate you to achieve your goals. In Year 4 we went to London Zoo to support our learning and we got to see incredible animals like giraffes, penguins, tigers and zebras. Seeing the animals helped me with my science and English work. We do lots of artwork in school, my favourite has been pieces of art based on the rainforest plants. My teacher has helped me become more interested in reading by helping me pick fascinating books. I like hearing suggestions from others and now I am giving other people ideas on what to read too. PE is one of my favourite subjects because we learn how to play different sports and techniques but also learn about the important muscles in our body.
A Year 3 Story…
I have been at Stratford Manor since I was 3 in nursery. I can’t remember everything, but I remember making friends. I would say that I enjoy English because it keeps my mind full of imagination. I’ve got much better at writing and editing my work. In English now we jot our ideas down in our book, I like this because we can these use these ideas in all of our other writing. I like PE a lot because it keeps me fit and healthy. We learn different skills and Mr Murphy explains what we need to do.
What I really like about Stratford Manor Primary is that we learn something new every day and lessons are always fun and exciting.
My teachers help me if I have a worry. One time I put something in the worry box and teachers quickly came and asked me if I was OK and helped me. I know I am cared for here.
A Year 3 Story…
Stratford Manor is special to be because me and my friends get to go on amazingly fun trips such as taking part in sport competitions at Eastlea secondary school and visiting the beach! I like taking part in competitions to represent my school and trying our best at new challenges.
My favourite subjects, well I like them all, but my most favourites are swimming, maths, science and PE. I really enjoyed learning to swim at the London Aquatic Centre because I quickly became more confident in the water and took part in challenges… I even got to swim in the deeper end of the pool.
I’m happy to go to Stratford Manor because our learning is fun, our teachers are amazing, kind and smart. We get awards for trying our best like Star of the Week, Manners awards and Lunch with Ms McGee.
A Year 3 Story…
One of the most special things about Stratford Manor is our bus. It is jungle theme and the lights can even change colours – there’s even two televisions that we can use for our learning. I like going on the bus to learn because it is so cool!
My favourite subject is maths because we get to explore our ideas and methods and we learn new things that are useful for us. I like Straford Manor because we get to go on fun educational trips.
I also enjoy developing my skills in PE because it actually feels like I am becoming a professional sports person like a footballer. Football club after school has helped me to become better at passing and shooting the ball. Another after school club I like is multisports club because I have experienced a wide range of sports and become good at playing them.
One of my best visits is when my class visited the London Transport Museum because we had to take part in an activity that involved finding clues and objects. We also got to see how transport has changed from the past. Another exciting experience was when we visited Chalkwell Beach – this was the first time I had been to the beach in this country. We got to build sand castles, put our feet in the water and we had a delicious ice cream.
I like using the VR headsets. In Year 2 we were learning about London, so we got to experience the different landmarks and zoomed in on Big Ben.
This year, I have enjoyed going swimming – I was already quite good at swimming so the teachers put me in the deeper pool so that I could become even better.
Stratford Manor is special to me because when we work well, we are rewarded.
