Remote Learning

This information on this page is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home. Information is also given regarding individuals who have to self-isolate due to Covid-19.

In the event of a school, local or national lockdown, Manor Primary School has a dedicated Remote Learning portal for parents and pupils to access the resources needed, including guidance documents that have been shared with parents through our parent communications app, SchoolPing. If you have any questions regarding the remote education offer, please contact the school office. Our Deputy Headteacher, Steve Buckley, is the Remote Education Lead.

Circumstance

Remote Learning Offer

My child is absent because they are awaiting test results and our household is required to self-isolate.

School is open to all other children and staff.

Your child is well to engage in school learning

Wherever possible, lessons will be streamed live in our Google Classroom. Children will need to log-in with their Google Classroom. The timetable of the day / week will be uploaded to the Google Classroom

  • Maths lessons uploaded to Google Classroom, following on/mirroring the maths being covered in the classroom at that time. The screens shared in the classroom and resources/worksheets used in the classroom. Answers will be provided for self-marking at home.
  • English tasks uploaded to Google Classroom following the sequence of learning happening in the classroom. The quantity will be dependent on age/stage of your child. Some/all of these will be ‘handed in’ to your child’s class teacher on Google Classroom for feedback.
  • RWI sessions to work on the sounds your child will be missing / Reading – The text will be uploaded to Google Classroom along with teaching slides for children to access the lesson.
  • Topic task(s) following the lessons being covered in class that week. This may be the screens from the lesson being uploaded onto Google Classroom along with resources / worksheets (if appropriate i.e. if the resources required for the lessons are already at home).

If the lessons being taught in class are not able to be delivered remotely (e.g. if it requires additional resources such as art resources e.g. clay or pastels, or geography resources e.g maps and atlases) then alternative ‘topic’ learning will be set on Google classroom and our other online education platforms such as Mathletics.

Children will be expected to register each day unless they are too unwell to engage with the learning. Parents should inform the school of the absence in the usual way.

My child’s class has been required to isolate due to public health advice due to a Covid-19 break out.

OR

We enter another ‘lockdown’ with total school closure.

  • Maths lessons uploaded to Google Classroom, following on/mirroring the maths being covered in the classroom at that time.
This will include spelling, grammar, writing and reading. We will also use our online resource, Bug Club.
  • Small group video learning which will look different depending on the age of the children. This may be reading sessions, maths sessions or writing sessions delivered by the class teacher and support staff. The sessions will run throughout the hours of the usual school day in small groups. The frequency of when your child’s sessions will occur will be communicated by your child’s class teacher via School Ping and Google Classroom stream. All sessions will be set up through Google Meet inside your child’s Google Classroom.
  • Topic task(s) will be uploaded to Google Classroom for children to complete and hand in virtually. This will be lessons your child would have had in class this term which can be most easily adapted to remote learning.
  • 1:1 support if your child receives 1:1 support and they are isolating, a more bespoke programme of support will be set up. This may include phone calls / video chats with your child’s 1:1 support. They will usually be expected to still complete the learning set on google classroom.

Children will be expected to register each day. The school will make regular contact with families.

Learning Links

The internet provides many great opportunities to consolidate and extend learning at home. We provide access for all our pupils to the online platform Education City and Mathletics for our Year 5 and 6 pupils. We have also suggested links to other websites that may be useful in supporting your child’s learning at home. Please note that these pages are not operated by Manor Primary.

If you know of any other great online resources, please let the school know so that we can share with the rest of the school community.
