We have extremely high expectations of children’s behaviour at Manor. Our aim is for every member of the school community to feel valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. We are a very caring school whose values are built upon mutual trust and respect for all. The school’s behaviour policy is designed to promote an environment where everyone feels happy, safe and secure, and where there is mutual respect and tolerance.
These same expectations continue in the playground where the same system of rights and responsibilities apply. The school council developed the Playground Plan which echoes the Learning Plan which is used throughout the school.
We promote and reward good behaviour as we believe that this will develop an ethos of kindness and cooperation. There are systems for rewards in every classroom; children receive lots of praise, stickers, good news letters, merit awards, manners awards and invitations to have a special lunch with Ms McGee.
We know that our children behave well because the school has a calm, focused and industrious feel to it. We regularly receive compliments about their behaviour when out on educational visits, and during our last Ofsted the children’s behaviour was judged to be outstanding.
Positive Leaning Behaviour
A crucial part of what we do is helping the children to develop a range of positive learning behaviours that will help them to succeed in the next stages of their education. We provide them with a wide range of opportunities to develop:
• independent enquiry,
• team work,
• reflective learning,
• effective participation,
• self management and
• resourceful thinking.
Keeping themselves Safe
Our curriculum covers a wide range of aspects of personal safety for the children. The children regularly cover aspects of e-safety and learn how to keep themselves safe when using the internet. We have a comprehensive Personal, Social & Health Education (PHSE) programme which covers the seven areas of: new beginnings, getting on and falling out, say no to bullying, going for goals, good to be me, relationships and changes.
As well as this we cover road safety, stranger danger, people who help us, drug awareness and sex and relationship education. All these are covered in an age-appropriate way.
We also offer swimming to Years 4 and 5, and regularly offer courses of cycle training.
Bullying of any sort is unacceptable and is not tolerated at Manor. Everyone in school has a responsibility to ensure that the school is a bully-free zone.

The school council devised an Anti-Bullying Charter in consultation with their classes. They launched this to the school in an assembly and organised for the charter to be on display in every class and around the school.
The children tell us that they are very clear about what to do if they have any concerns.
Attendance & Punctuality
Attendance and punctuality in school is very important, and is a key factor in the progress that children are able to make in their learning, and at Manor we positively encourage and celebrate good attendance. Each week the classes with the best attendance receive a certificate, children with excellent attendance at the end of each term receive a certificate and at the end of the year are invited to take part in a special treat.
If your child is absent for school pleas let us know the reason why as soon as is possible. If you do need to make an appointment for your child please try to book them for before or after the school day.
Holidays should only be taken in school holidays. In exceptional circumstances, and if your child’s attendance is good, then up to 10 days holiday may be authorised. This is at Ms McGee’s discretion, and will not be authorised on a regular basis. All holiday taken other than this will be recorded as unauthorised.
Our first and foremost priority is to keep your child safe and healthy. Keeping your child safe means:
• The health and safety of all children
• Making sure that the adults who work here have undergone safety and security checks
• Protecting children from deliberate harm
• Being an anti-bullying school
• Being proactive against racist behaviour
• Protecting our children from harassment and discrimination
• A positive approach to behaviour management including the use of physical intervention safely, when necessary
• Meeting the needs of children with medical conditions
• Providing first aid
• Protecting children from drug and substance abuse
• Children enjoying safe educational visits
• Caring for children’s personal needs
• Keeping children safe when using the internet and making sure they are aware of cyber bullying.

• Being a ‘listening school’.
• Ensuring they know who to go in school if they have a problem
We have a comprehensive range of policies and procedures in place which ensure that we are able to keep the children safe. In our last Ofsted inspection our safeguarding was judged to be outstanding.
All staff receive regular training in safeguarding children and child protection issues to ensure that they are fully aware of the school’s policies and procedures.
The school’s child protection officers are Ms McGee (Headteacher) and Mrs Burke (Learning Mentor). The designated governor for child protection is Isabel Darling, Chair of Governors. All concerns are dealt with through the comprehensive procedures of both the school and the local authority. Issues are handled sensitively and confidentially at all times.
